Anti-Spyware/Adware Programs

From: RLFS@.. try downloading the AOL security suite. (keyword antivirus) It has worked better than all the others.  However, you have to dlete all other antivirus, antispyware programs first, or it won't work ... The AOL Security Suite is wonderful, & protects your computer at all times.  Stops pop-ups, adware, spyware, viruses, & includes a firewall.  But you MUST delete all other such programs b4 downloading it.  Its a McAfee program, & is updated several times a day.  Its also free to AOL Subscribers.  We are using it on all of our computers & have not had a problem.  [ http://daol.aol.com/safetycenter ]

From: tekwiz@.. Try AdAware [ http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/ ] --very powerful program. Update it with new definitions before scanning.

From: grafic@.. If you haven't tried AD-AWARE by Lavasoft, give it a shot. There is a free version on the Lavasoft website to download. I use it often and it seems to help somewhat.... It does not get my user-friendly award. ... [It cleans up spyware and adware]. However, I also run a few clean-up pgms such as Norton Anti-virus, Spybot, and MS Antispyware besides Ad-Aware, often one after the other, to ensure total clean-up. No one pgm is totally up to date at any given point in time.

From: horatiovg@.. I use AdAware from lavasoft.com - the free version cleans up, the paid version helps keep the junk off.

From: shmullych@.. The best that I have found are two free programs, Adaware, and zone alarm, and they both have free downloads.

From: Deborah..@.. I passed your question along to a colleague
From Christopher .. I've had great success with
Lavasoft's AdAware http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/ and
Spybot Search and Destroy http://www.safer-networking.org  in conjunction with the
Microsoft BETA antispyware http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/spyware/software/default.mspx .
All are free. I've had great success running them in this order. Additionally, updated versions of Mcafee and Symantec products while find and remove Zeno when you scan your drive(s).
If these products are not present follow these removal steps to remove this adware from your computer: Reboot your computer to Safe mode ( press F8 when Windows start ). Click Start > Run, type 'regedit', and click Ok to open the Registry editor. Navigate to the following key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run. In the right pane find and delete the entry 'SysStart'. Record the path and filename that 'SysStart' points to... Navigate to and delete the following registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\Zeno Delete the file you recorded in step 3. Reboot the computer.

From: Ljrx@.. Did You try using those removal programs after you start windows in Safe Mode [
press F8 when Windows start]. Sometimes they get rid of them better that way

From: dgertler9@.. Did SpyBot or AntiSpyware detect Zeno?  If not, you may need to update your definitions.  If the adware was detected but removal failed, you should probably rerun the scan with the computer in SafeMode... Zeno runs on start-up, and it's more difficult to remove a running program.  The adware won't run in SafeMode, so you can then do your scan and clean, then restart the computer.  You may need to do one more scan-clean then as well, to remove some leftover pieces.
